Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has urged citizens to be alert to potential landslides in several regions, particularly in South and East Jakarta.
"L andslides may occur if rainfall exceeds normal levels,"
This warning is based on an analysis by the Center for Vulcanology and Geology Disaster Mitigation which combines the landslide susceptibility map with monthly rainfall forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
Head of Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji, stated that several areas in Jakarta are categorized as moderate-to-high landslide susceptibility zones. In South and East Jakarta, the affected sub-districts include Cilandak, Jagakarsa, Kebayoran Baru, Kebayoran Lama, Mampang Prapatan, Pancoran, Pasar Minggu, and Pesanggrahan in the south, as well as Cipayung, Kramat Jati, and Pasar Rebo in the east.
BPBD Prepares Weather Modification Operation to Minimize Extreme Weather Impact"In moderate zones, landslides may occur if rainfall exceeds normal levels, particularly in areas bordering river valleys, cliffs, roadside slopes, or unstable slopes," he informed, on Thursday (8/14).
He added that in high-risk zones, the potential is even greater because old landslide areas can become active again. BPBD urges local officials and residents to remain vigilant, especially during heavy rainfall.
"We urged everyone to stay alert by monitoring their surroundings and avoiding risky activities on steep slopes, especially near rivers or cliffs. Report immediately if there are any signs of soil movement," he emphasized.
Isnawa also suggested preventive measures such as building gabions or retaining walls for sloped or unstable land.
"Jakarta BPBD also encourages people to plant trees in landslide-prone areas with minimal vegetation to minimize the risk of landslides and minimize the impact in case of heavy rain," he mentioned.
